Pre-Phase A SISO Smackdown 2012

Responding to interest in having Smackdown reach students who have not yet learned to do simulation programming, including high school students, The Smackdown Executive Committee working with the SISO Conference Committee is introducing Pre-Phase A SISO Smackdown 2012.

• Student teams will design a Spaceport for the year 2062—anywhere in the Universe. This is an experience that will address how teams share, structure and frame workable ideas.

• They will create 3- D models for potential presentation at SIW

• The experience is designed to encourage innovation, teamwork and  support students in learning to program, including High Level Architecture (HLA),  in order to participate in SISO Smackdown 2013.

• The goal is for students to gain understanding of M&S applied to Space exploration and other complex systems and further their appreciation of M&S as an interactive, memorable problem-solving experience.

• It is an opportunity for the simulation community to help prepare students for work in this growing  “green” recession-proof industry, cross-cutting technology and trans-disciplinary practice.

The Smackdown Executive Committee will announce instructions including prizes and  criteria for participation in mid-September. The final competition will take place at the SISO Smackdown in Orlando in March 2012.
